.day 64: ask a midwife.

Yay! We just got back from our first meeting with a direct-entry midwife*. We met with Heather Johnston of Birth Wise Maternity Care, who is a CPM and LDEM,  and got to spend an entire hour asking questions, posing worst-case, baby-birthing scenarios, and just chatting about all things pregnancy and baby related.

Honestly, I had a really great time. Heather was personable and funny and incredibly knowledgeable. She answered every one one of my questions (and you know I had a LOT of questions) with confidence, citing her vast experience and lots of outside research as well. I left feeling reassured and really excited for our next foray into the world of labor and delivery. Yes. Excited. Bring it on! I can't wait!

We may still interview a few more midwife candidates, but we liked Heather so much, we may just go with her for our midwife.

*A direct entry midwife is a midwife that attends homebirths. Yup. Homebirths. I know you think we're crazy, but I'll write a post all about our decision later. I promise we're not crazy, negligent, or brainwashed. Really. I promise.
